One of the only constants in life is change.
If you’re like me, you’ve heard that a million times over and it’s definitely true in the author marketing world.
Because there are always going to be little tweaks to algorithms.
New interfaces and functionalities.
And there’s inevitably going to be a change in the effectiveness of certain marketing tactics.
Let’s take 1996 email marketing as an example.
In those days, you could get a 90% open rate.
Now after you’ve sent a few emails, usually it’s going to be more in the 20 to 30% range.
Things may change over time, but we have a choice.
We get to choose how we react to these tweaks, to these things becoming more efficient or less efficient.
Because I see a lot of authors get frustrated when something that used to be easy or simple, just stops working.
But who said this was supposed to be easy?
Writing a book is possibly one of the hardest things you’ve done.
But just because the Kindle device and Amazon have made it so much simpler to publish, so much simpler to get your words out into the world, doesn’t mean you’ve hit easy street.
So you have to have the right attitude.
Something might have changed, something might have gotten harder.
But you need to be up for the challenge because if you aren’t, someone else will, and they will take the success that you deserved.
Don’t let anyone claim your success.
