So what does it mean to give more to your readers?
Because we’re always on this hunt, right?
We want to do those list things, and swaps, and build our lists with ads.
And we’re always trying to get new readers and more readers.
But what about the readers we actually have?
Because one of the big things, in the last few years, has been to do list swaps.
A list swap is when an author shares another person’s books on their email lists.
Which is totally fine to do every so often, but a lot of authors have actually taken to making almost all of their emails just all these other potential books to read.
I’m just not so sure this is a positive experience for our readers.
You need to make sure that you’re taking care of your existing people.
How do we do that?
You can run contests and give away signed copies, not with any kind of incentive because you’re not supposed to do that either, but you can still just get your readers excited.
You can tell them what’s coming: give them cover reveals and excerpts of the new ones.
Give them free cool things to do and tell them about discounts.
You really just need to make sure that it isn’t always about getting more, more, faster, better, quicker, bigger lists.
It’s about taking care of the people you have already.
It’s about going deeper.
It’s about connecting with them on a deeper level.
Because those are the people that might go on to buy all of the books for the rest of your career.
I hope you found this helpful.
Thank you for reading and have a fantastic day.
